Snoop Dogg. He has been my favorite ever since I was in eight grade, and right now I am starting eleventh grade in eight days. I recently purchased two Snoop Dogg CDs, and have been listening to his music non-stop for about a week. I also check out Snoop Dogg's official site and Wikipedia page quite often, it keeps me pretty much updated. Like just a week ago when I found out that Snoop Dogg has announced that the name of his upcoming album will me 'Malice In Wonderland.'Well, I was just doing that yesterday when I stumbled across this line on his Wikipedia page-
Snooop Dogg has recently ventured into singing for Bollywood with his first ever rap for an Indian movie Singh Is Kinng; the title of the song is also Sing
Ok, So I was really happy at first to hear it, the familiar Snoop D O Double G and all and specially the part about 'Whaddup to all the ladies hanging out in Mumbai.' (mainly because i'm one of them.) But I couldn't help but think back to little over a year ago when Akon came to Mumbai as part of the promotions for a Music Channel and the fact that every roadside wannabe or tapori guys as we call them were singing Smack That aloud every time I pass because they knew that I was the type that only listened to English music and frowned on Bollywood music. Their singing went something like this-
Smek Det, Oll On De Floor
Smek Det, Geev Me Some More
Smek Det, Teel You Get Sore
Smek Det, OOooo
There's no need to mention how recounting those memories fills me with utter disgust and right now I think that if the song becomes popular, (and it probably will because it's so catchy) that every single guy on the road will be trying to 'rap' a Snoop Dogg song. Well, if I look on the bright side this may pave the way for a Snoop Dogg concert in Mumbai which I have always wished to attend.(That's is of course if My Mother allows me, she fears sending me because of frequent reports of molestation at these sort of concerts.) I also hate most bollywood films, few exceptions to that being 'Cheeni Kum' and 'Taxi Number Nau Do Gyarah.' Mum and me discussed about how most Indians are Bollywood addicts and quite a lot of Bollywood movies successes depend on their soundtrack.
But I still think that Snoop Dogg's entry into Bollywood will be the cheapening of a genius. Or maybe he's not a genius, maybe he's just a greedy lustful idiot who makes pretty good music.
